Lloyd & Whyte Community Broking Exeter: Another Chapter

At Lloyd & Whyte Community Broking Exeter, giving back to the community isn’t just a nice-to-have – it’s a fundamental part of who we are. Our mission extends far beyond providing exceptional insurance and financial advice; it’s about supporting the people, causes, and organisations that make our communities thrive. In the spring of 2024, we were delighted to be part of giving back to the organisation, Libraries Unlimited South West, who received a £1,000 donation through the Benefact Group Movement for Good Awards – a wonderful example of how collective goodwill can enrich lives across Devon and Torbay.

Celebrating Libraries Unlimited South West

In March, our Account Executive, Hannah Freeland, proudly presented the cheque to Libraries Unlimited South West on behalf of the Benefact Group Movement for Good Awards. This annual initiative sees over £1 million donated to charities and good causes across the UK each year. The awards rely on public nominations, allowing individuals to highlight local organisations that make a real difference, and Libraries Unlimited was one of the deserving recipients.

With 54 libraries across Devon and Torbay, Libraries Unlimited South West offers far more than just books and reading materials. Their libraries have become vital community hubs, providing access to a variety of services and activities such as reading groups, knitting clubs, work clubs, cultural events, bounce and rhyme sessions, and free Wi-Fi. These spaces help combat social isolation, foster learning, and create connections between people of all ages and backgrounds.

Libraries for Life: Supporting communities through every season

A recent initiative launched by Libraries Unlimited, called Libraries for Life, is a perfect example of their commitment to community wellbeing. During the colder months, libraries across the region have transformed into warm, welcoming spaces for those who need them most. Visitors can access free winter coats, hot drinks, and comfortable spaces where they can relax and stay connected.

Just like our Lloyd & Whyte Community Broking Exeter offices, these libraries sit at the heart of their communities, offering support, kindness, and a sense of belonging. Every library tailors its services to meet the needs of its local community, ensuring that everyone who walks through the door feels seen, supported, and valued.

The Benefact Group’s Movement for Good

The Benefact Group Movement for Good Awards is a key initiative from the Benefact Group, of which we are proud to be a part. Mark Hews, Group Chief Executive, expressed his gratitude, saying:

“We would like to thank every single person who took the time to nominate a good cause as part of our Movement for Good Awards. The Benefact Group is a family of award-winning specialist financial services companies and the third largest corporate donor to charity in the UK. Owned by a charity ourselves, charitable giving is at the heart of what we do.”

That spirit of giving is what drives initiatives like this one – connecting businesses, communities, and individuals with a shared goal of doing good.

How you can get involved

The work that Libraries Unlimited South West does wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of its staff, volunteers, and supporters. There are many ways for people across Devon and Torbay to get involved. Whether it’s volunteering with local libraries, helping to shelve books, facilitating reading or knitting groups, joining the Home Library Service to deliver books to those unable to leave their homes, or simply offering a friendly chat – every act of kindness helps.

Those looking to support further can also make a donation to keep these invaluable community spaces thriving. And when the next Movement for Good Awards nominations open, members of the public can nominate Libraries Unlimited South West once again to help secure continued funding for their incredible work.

Building thriving communities

We believe that strong communities are built on connection, compassion, and collaboration. Partnering with organisations like Libraries Unlimited and being part of initiatives such as the Benefact Group Movement for Good Awards reinforces our commitment to community giving, ensuring that our actions make a lasting difference.
