In Wales alone, more than 13,000 households were assessed as homeless and ‘owed a duty to help secure accommodation’ in 2024-25 according to Government statistics.

This commitment came to life recently when Community Broking Swansea presented a £1,000 donation to Shelter Cymru’s Swansea branch as part of the Benefact Group’s Movement for Good annual programme.
Supporting Shelter Cymru – defending the right to a safe home
In November, Neena Patel and Anthony Fox from Lloyd & Whyte Community Broking Swansea were delighted to present the cheque to Shelter Cymru Wales, a charity dedicated to ensuring that everyone in Wales has the right to a decent, secure home.
Shelter Cymru’s vision is simple but powerful: a safe and secure home is not a privilege, it’s a fundamental human right. The charity helps thousands of people across Wales every year who are affected by the housing emergency. Their services provide free, confidential, and independent advice to people facing housing difficulties or homelessness.
When needed, Shelter Cymru also advocates and challenges on behalf of individuals and families, ensuring they are treated fairly and properly supported. Through this, they not only transform lives but also influence better practice and policy change, improving outcomes for communities across Wales.
During the visit, Stephanie Griffiths and Neil Davies from Shelter Cymru shared powerful insights into their work and the impact it makes. The Lloyd & Whyte Community Broking Swansea team were deeply moved by the dedication of the charity’s staff and volunteers, who work tirelessly to support people during some of the most difficult moments in their lives.
As Anthony Fox commented, “It was inspiring to see first-hand the passion and commitment of the Shelter Cymru team. Knowing that our donation contributes to the incredible difference they make for families in crisis is something we’re truly proud of.”
