In May 2024 our team from Lloyd & Whyte Community Broking’s Swansea office undertook a truly heroic challenge to raise funds for Faith in Families. The mountaineering team undertook the National Three Peaks Challenge, where they scaled the three highest peaks in Wales – Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon, 1,085m), Cadair Idris (893m) and Pen y Fan (886m) – and in doing so raised a magnificent £10,000 for Faith in Families. This daring endeavour not only tested their physical and mental endurance but powerfully underscored the depth of their commitment to their local community.
The Benefact Group channelling good
Lloyd & Whyte Community Broking Swansea is part of the broader Benefact Group, whose guiding principle is that “better business, better lives”. As part of this charity-owned family of financial services companies, every available profit is channelled back into the community. For the Swansea branch, this isn’t just about providing insurance products; it’s about being embedded in the local area, building relationships with individuals, families and businesses, and putting community at the heart of everything we do.
The May challenge brought this commitment into sharp focus. Led by Anthony Fox (Eastside Ambassador) and supported by team members including Neena Patel, (Finance Manager in Swansea) the group admitted that parts of the trail were “brutal”, but they refused to be deterred. “It’s the hardest thing I have ever done!” Neena said afterward, reflecting both the intensity of the hike and the motivation behind it. Their route began in the dramatic terrain of Snowdonia National Park before moving on to Cadair Idris and finally Pen y Fan; the total ascent and terrain variation made the feat memorable not only for views but for sheer grit.
Local support from Days Hire, Swansea
The success of the climb was made possible with generous support: Days Vehicle Hire in Gorseinon, donated the bus free of charge to transport the team, and other clients volunteered to act as chefs and provide logistical and moral support. With this kind of community backing, the climb became more than a fundraiser – it was a community event rooted in local solidarity.
For Faith in Families, the funds and the attention couldn’t come at a better time. Since its founding in 1999, Faith in Families has been dedicated to helping children and families in Swansea who face a wide range of challenges – whether it’s parenting support, tailored therapeutic interventions, or bridging gaps for families in crisis. Their network of “cwtch” centres, as well as the multibank initiative Cwtch Mawr (which distributes essential goods like bedding, baby supplies and hygiene items to families in need), ensure that vulnerable families are supported with dignity and care.
Faith in Families & Lloyd & Whyte Community Broking Swansea- shared values
The partnership between Lloyd & Whyte Swansea and Faith in Families is built on shared values. As Anthony Fox remarked: “Supporting local children and families isn’t just important to us, it’s essential. We believe that every child deserves a safe and nurturing environment to grow up in, and Faith in Families is making that possible for so many.” That support is not only financial, but meaningful in practice – from matched funding at key events (for example Lloyd & Whyte matched over £2,765 at a fund-raiser event on St David’s Day for the Charity) to transforming their Swansea office into a festive grotto for families in partnership with Faith in Families and The National Autistic Society. Many local causes have also benefitted from a grant awarded via the Benefact Group Movement for good awards.
The funds raised from the Three Peaks Challenge will directly enable enhanced services for families in the Swansea area: expanding outreach in the cwtch centres, increasing the number of families supported, and stepping up early-intervention work to prevent more serious issues from developing. The visibility of the challenge also helps raise awareness of Faith in Families’ work and inspires other local businesses to consider how they too can support community causes.
More than just an insurance broker
This event sits firmly within the ethos of Lloyd & Whyte: to be more than just an insurance broker, but a partner in community well-being. The story of the climb also offers lessons about stretching boundaries, teamwork, resilience and purpose. For Neena and the rest of the team, each steep switchback was a metaphor for the families supported by Faith in Families: the climb is tough, but the view from the top is worth the effort; the path is challenging, but with support and determination you reach a place of hope and achievement.
Looking ahead, the partnership has momentum. With the £10,000 raised, plus the existing match-funding and community events, Lloyd & Whyte and Faith in Families are well positioned to scale their impact. The momentum will fuel further work in areas such as mental health, childhood trauma, inclusive holiday events (as seen with the Santa’s Grotto) and ensuring that vulnerable families get immediate access to the support they need.
Three Peaks more than just a fundraiser
The May 2024 Three Peaks Challenge climbed by Lloyd & Whyte Community Broking’s Swansea team was more than a fundraiser – it was a statement of community commitment. It shows that business, when done with purpose, can contribute meaningfully to social change. By raising £10,000 for Faith in Families and doing so through grit, teamwork and local support, this collaboration highlights the potential of partnerships rooted in shared mission. Families in Swansea will benefit, and the legacy of this climb will be felt for years to come.
