Do you need Jewellery Insurance?

Jewellery Insurance

Nothing says romance quite like insurance...

Valentine’s Day is synonymous with romance; a time where love is celebrated, and appreciation shown. But while jewellery insurance may be the furthest thing from your mind, have you considered financially protecting your plans and gifts?

Travelling?

You might be planning to whisk your spouse, partner or ‘other half’ off to a romantic city or rural retreat (Paris, Venice, or the depths of the English countryside). You may have already booked it; arranged for flowers on arrival and perhaps you’re even planning on popping the question. Or you might be taking yourself off for a much-needed change of scene and a well-deserved break. Without putting a dampener on your carefully thought-out plans, extreme weather, which can be prevalent at this time of year, can disrupt even the most carefully laid plans. This is where we do the boring bit for you.

As soon as you book your holiday, whether in the UK or abroad, we strongly advise you arrange travel insurance. It can cover you for cancelled or missed flights, travel delays, lost luggage, theft or loss of belongings, and medical treatment should you become ill or injured.

Proposing?

Or, this Valentine’s Day, perhaps you’re going to ask your partner to marry you and have a sparkly surprise for them in the form of an engagement ring? If you’re hoping for “I do” to seal the deal, your partner’s new ring will need engagement ring insurance which your current contents insurance might not cover. If she did say “yes”, talk to us about insuring an engagement ring. Our expert insurance team will be able to advise you as to whether your existing policy covers the new addition to your contents, or whether you might need a different type of insurance.

Gifting?

If you’re planning to give your favourite person a gift of jewellery for Valentine’s Day, jewellery insurance as part of your contents insurance, or if necessary, as a standalone policy, is essential for expensive items. Insuring jewellery can sometimes be a complex process as the value of precious metals and fine gemstones (diamonds, rubies, sapphires, and emeralds) usually increases over the years. Obtaining an up to date jewellery valuation for insurance purposes would normally be your first step, then arranging insurance based on your valuations would be next. If in doubt, please contact us to advise you on the best course of action.

Similarly, if you are giving your loved one an expensive watch, you will need luxury watch insurance. Bear in mind that many designer watches such as Rolex and Patek Philippe for example, increase in value over time. This is due to increased demand for some watch types such as the Rolex Daytona; an increase in the price of precious metals; and several luxury watch brands discontinuing production of some styles and models, resulting in those watches becoming rarer. If a Rolex or other type of expensive timepiece is the latest addition to your valuables, you will need tailored Rolex watch insurance or the equivalent for your brand. Apple watches can also be insured for which we provide Apple watch insurance for.

Arranging insurance for watches can sometimes be slightly more complicated than assuming it can automatically be placed under your contents insurance. If you’re in any doubt as to whether your watch or watch collection is accurately protected, don’t hesitate to get in touch with our team. Similarly, if you would like to discuss new or existing cover for your jewellery or travel plans, please get in touch.
