Powered by people. Driven by purpose.

Lloyd & Whyte Community Broking is committed to making a positive impact in their local communities. Their parent company, the Benefact Group, is one of the largest corporate donors in the UK and give all available profits to charities. Since 2014 the Group has given £250 million to good causes.

So, when you buy insurance through Lloyd & Whyte Community Broking,  you are helping others, making you part of giving back to charities and communities. Here is what the Taunton and Tiverton team have been up to in 2025.

PROMISEworks

Lloyd & Whyte Community Broking visited PROMISEworks after the charity was awarded a grant through the Benefact Group’s Movement for Good Awards in June. PROMISEworks is a Somerset-based volunteer mentoring charity, supporting disadvantaged children and young people across the county. Ali Hart, PROMISEworks’ General Manager said, “It’s a really nice feeling to know people were given the opportunity to vote for a range of charities, and they picked us!”

Donation to Holsworthy Mayor's Charities 2024-2025

Through funds rained at an Elvis Tribute Night, Ian Parker visited Holsworthy Town Council to present a cheque of £2,000 towards Mayor’s Charities 2024-2025. The Benefact Group then fund-matched, making the total donation £4,000!  They are delighted that the money raised is supporting a local Theatre and Primary School in Holsworthy.

Completing the Commando Challenge

In September of this year, Steve Barrett, Operations Team Leader from the Tiverton office, completed the Royal Marines Commando Challenge held in East Devon.

Raising £260 for charity which was fund-matched by the Benefact Group to total £520, Steve found the Royal Marines assault course across Woodbury Common to be the toughest thing he had ever done. In his words:

“First is a gruelling few hours on Woodbury Common over obstacles, through freezing cold water and the dreaded sheep dip…. then there is the bottom field assault course which is a timed event and out of our group I was 7th out of 40. It was a fantastic event and so well run.”

Walking for Cancer

Putting their best foot forward for Cancer Research UK, Gemma, Clare, and Katie from Taunton office walked 26 miles along the Jurassic Coast. They raised £1,500 for the charity which was fund-matched by our parent company, the Benefact Group, reaching the gigantic sum of £3,000.

Raising funds for Rowcroft Hospice

In September, Kerry Hurley, Operations Manager of our Exeter branch, ran the Torbay Half Marathon to raise money for Rowcroft Hospice who provide hospice care, referrals, and education and learning in South Devon. In Kerry’s words, the race was tough!

“I am not a natural runner so to complete the course was my aim. I trained hard physically for the course but to be honest it tested my mental strength the most. I like a challenge, and the training gives me a focus and structure to make sure I exercise and look after my mental health, when we can get consumed with day-to-day life.”

Including the Benefact Group’s fund match, Kerry raised an incredible £1,015.74 for Rowcroft Hospice!

Finding a way to give back with Founder’s Day

For Founder’s Day, our annual commemoration of Lloyd & Whyte’s founder, Mervyn Pyke, we joined in on the Taunton office’s fundraising activities, which included:

  • Cake Sales
  • Various Quizzes and challenges across the offices
  • Axe throwing and basketball
  • “Love Where You Live” photo bomb

Funds were raised for St Margaret’s Hospice Care – the community-funded charity providing end-of-life and palliative hospice care through a holistic and compassionate approach.

The road is long…

Mandy Hobbs from Lloyd & Whyte Community Broking Taunton completed a 30-mile sponsored walk from Yeovil hospice to the Taunton hospice. She raised £490 for the charity which is now in the process of being fund-matched by the Benefact Group!
